The House of Arcanas was never meant to be found by accident.
Hidden in the French Alps, the academy has spent generations training students in a world built around tarot, old traditions and four Houses whose rivalries began long before any of them were born. The rules are strange, the trials are worse, and everyone seems remarkably comfortable with the fact that some parts of Arcanas are better left unexplained.
Zoe Wilde has no interest in becoming part of any of it.
She came looking for her sister.
Mara disappeared after leaving behind a blood-stained tarot card and the name of Professor Armand StClair, and following that clue brings Zoe straight through the gates of the academy Mara had been investigating before she vanished. Inside, almost everyone knew her, but very few of them want to talk. The one name that keeps surfacing is the Hollow Crown, something buried deeply enough in Arcanas history that asking about it changes the mood of a room.
Then there are the boys.
Leo Sinclair is everything Zoe expects from someone raised inside Arcanas: brilliant, shamelessly confident and far too amused by her refusal to play by rules everyone else seems to understand. He knows the academy, its rivalries and exactly how much trouble Zoe is causing simply by asking the wrong questions.
Riven Grey is harder to explain. He belongs to the House of Cups, carries a curse nobody discusses openly, and steals dreams. Zoe knows that part because he entered hers before she ever knew his name.
Riven knows things about her. Worse, he knows things about Mara. Getting an honest answer from him is another matter entirely, especially when every encounter leaves Zoe wondering whether he is helping her find the truth or deciding how much of it she can survive.
One sister missing. Four Houses watching. Two boys she has very good reasons not to trust.
And somewhere inside Arcanas, the Hollow Crown is waiting to be found.
